The body of a man who drowned in Degray Lake last month was found Friday, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies received a call on September 20 around 2:55 p.m. about a possible drowning, according to the sheriff's office. During an investigation, deputies were informed that Courtland Matthew McDonald, 24, of Jacksonville was attending a church outing when he went missing near the Caddo Bend Recreational Area.

Witnesses told deputies that McDonald was swimming and began to call for help. Some people reportedly tried to rescue him but they were unsuccessful.

Multiple agencies initially responded to the scene, but were not able to locate McDonald, according to the sheriff's office. His body was found on Friday around 7:45 a.m.
